High-powered Oklahoma scoring in bunches with Alcorn State next
Oklahoma's Xzayvier Brown (1) drives to the basket as Arkansas-Pine Bluff 's Trevon Payton (20) defends in the second half of the college basketball game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at McCasland Field House in Norman, Okla., Tuesday Nov., 11, 2025. New-look Oklahoma has turned over a new leaf on offense.
The Sooners (3-2) have scored 95-plus points four times already this season entering what could be another offensive romp against Alcorn State in Norman, Okla., on Sunday.
The Braves (0-6) fell to LSU 107-81 on Tuesday.
Transfer guards Nijel Pack (18.8 points per game) and Xzayvier Brown (17.0), and transfer forward Tae Davis (13.0 points, 8.2 rebounds) are the leading scorers for the transfer-heavy Sooners, who are averaging 91.8 points per game, 38th in Division I.
"By any stretch of the imagination, I am not telling any of these guys not to shoot," coach Porter Moser said.
Six-foot-10 center Mohamed Wague, the only player on this year's team who made a start for the Sooners last year, had a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds in a 95-71 victory over Oral Roberts on Thursday.
"When he's fresh, he impacts the game," Moser said. "Defensively, rebound-wise, he's unbelievably valuable to the energy level we need."
Wague made four starts a year ago, when the Sooners averaged 78.3 points a game and reached 90 five times, including a 94-78 home win over Alcorn State.
The Sooners added another rotation piece against Oral Roberts, when Long Beach State transfer guard Jadon Jones had eight points in his first game. Jones missed the 2024-25 season with a back injury and was delayed this season with a groin injury.
The Braves conclude the first leg of their annual preseason walkabout in Norman, their seventh stop on a season-opening tour that has included four 20-plus point losses against major-conference opponents Florida State, Minnesota, Maryland and LSU.
They have given up an average of 90.3 points per game, 355th-most out of 365 Division I teams.
Junior guard Shane Lancaster (12.2 points) is the only Alcorn State player scoring in double figures. Sophomore guard Davian Williams (9.8 points) had 21 off the bench at LSU, the first time he had not started this season.
Lancaster has made 14 of 25 shots from 3-point range. Williams is 12 of 31, making a career-high six in 10 attempts against LSU.
